Endless Returns is inspired by 'Gli infiniti ritorni', a novel written by Marren Bagels (pseudonym of the Italian writer Maria De Barba).
The plot of the novel, published in 1961 by the publisher Arnoldo Mondadori in the Urania series, is crossed by a doctrine of reincarnation which refers to the Book of Dzyan, a thousand-year-old text which is said to have been written in the Senzar language and kept in a secret of Tibet (however, no original source has ever been provided).

Endless Returns was created thanks to the reuse of ancient timbral sets designed with the Alpha Syntauri system, an 8-bit multi-timbral synthesizer designed for the Apple II computer.

The timbre matrix I created in 1984 for Nonius is the same used for the other movements of the suite: each one is related to the others as regards the timbre, each one is different as regards the shape, obtained through layered cyclic structures. In addition to determining the profile and character, the cycle control parameters (period, density and distribution) respond to the need for condensation and rarefaction of the sound material.
